Top 3 Unwanted Blog Visitors

BY: admin

As a blogger, it’s good to know that someone’s actually visiting your blog and reading your entries. Come on, you! You dont blog because of nothing, right?

Visitors, commentators.. they motivate you. They make you want to blog more. But you know what? Not all of them are, well, wanted or welcome or whatever you want to call it. They are what we call “unwanted visitors“. Curious? Of course you are!

Without further ado, then:

Top 3 Unwanted Blog Visitors

1. Spammers/ Bots- who doesn’t hate bots? They’re the reason we install anti-spam codes and all. They post weird comments. Weird links to weird sites.  Usually, adult sites, casino sites and the like.
How to deal: Ever heard of Akismet plugin, babe?

2. Great Pretenders- “Oh yes, I’m the great pretender Pretending I’ve read your entries.. My need is such; I pretend too much I’m stupid yes you can tell.”  They maybe one of your blog links or affies. They pretend that they’ve read your entry but its sooo not true.  You’ll notice it in their comments. Usually, their comment goes a little something  like this (if not all, some of them):

“Thanks for sharing. Got a new Post!”

“Cool!”

So why do they post comments? Because they want you to return it. Clever, eh?
How to Deal: There are several ways to deal with this meanies:

a. Copy the comment they’ve posted, visit their blog paste that comment and then submit. Comment returned. :-)

b. Blog about it. But dont drop the name. Just give a few hint, clues..

c. Be Frank. Talk to that meanie.

d. Ignore them, don’t return the comment.

3. Rippers/ Stealers- these people lack creativity, talent and originality. They rip layouts and use it without asking for the owners permission. They copy blog entries without providing a link back to the original author.

How to Deal: Blog about it. Warn your blogger friends. Drop the name. Drop the site url.

this is cool, thanks for sharing.. oops, I did it again! lol

Who doesn’t hate that stupid comment, eh? ugh, really stupid and not so creative one. I usually delete those type of comment, 1st. they don’t deserve a link back from my site, let alone on a comment page.

I use Akismet too ever since Bot started. Really helpful and can trap bots 99%!

I like that suggestion, huh.. copy the comment and return it to them. lol.. I’ll do that next time.. haha, bitchy.

  2. April says:

Srsly these are all true. For the tips, what I do is I don’t return the comment. Pretty simple. I don’t want `just for the sake of commenting` thing besides I feel like it forcing me to comment back but I will not!

  3. Luna says:

Right. Well, I’ve had a bad experience on spambots. And Akismet is the best plugin to fight it. :D I’ve also had experience with the great pretender visitor. D: *sigh* When I’m in bitchy mode, I don’t visit their blog at all. Hee! /o/ Thanks for the tip in dealing with them.

    Will link you! :)

  4. Trish says:

Aw, I was gonna do what Honeul did. I’m never visiting again, Honeul!!! DX Haha.

Anyway, great post, really. Usually I confront the person who makes a comment like, “Wow, cool post!”, but that’s just me. It kinda bothers me, like, “Wow, thanks for actually reading the post that took me 20 minutes to type!” XP

As for the stealing stuff, I don’t like the idea of dropping their name when it’s the FIRST time they’ve done it to you. People make mistakes and beginners might not know that what they’re doing is stealing someone’s work. I did that when I first started out, because I didn’t know (’cause I was a dumbass). But someone told me it was wrong, so I sent a letter apologizing to every person. Doing it a second time is totally different. ;)

I actually use a quiz thing where you have to type in the answer to block spam, because Akismet didn’t work so well for me. :/ I haven’t gotten spam since.

  5. Mushirah says:

LOL, I’m with you girl. I use to totally hate when people would just come on my site and just post like “lol, you are crazy… hey, can you comment my recent post?” Like, OK. What’s up with that?? And I agree with Luna, Akismet has done wonder for my blog. Any who, love your blog.

    xox.

  6. Angeline says:

    Lol. I like this entry.
Haha. Very true and made me laugh for some reason.

And those spammers. Ahhh. I have like 10 pages of them on my other blog. (Stupid me for not downloading the akismet plugin). Lol.

I also agree with what you said about those pretenders out there and their stupid slash nonsense comments!

  7. shugah says:

i had a share of this hates way back. errr.
and also those spambots! super annoying! and experienced a lot bout that *great pretenders. youre so right in stating it there. tellin you theyve read and the stuffs. blaah

those tips were awesome! thumbs up :)

  8. Luna says:

Hi there. New URL. My subdomain got fixed. Kindly update my link. Sorry for the hassle. Thanks! :-)

  9. riish says:

haha yeah ,i’ve encountered those three already.
actually, im not using the Akismet plugin for a reason, I just manually mark the comments as spam, its no hassle for me.

and yeah, those great pretenders. i h8 them much. Im reading the bloggers’ post and as much as possible, i can give them all that was running in my head thoughout their stories. In someway, their efforts of thinking what to blog or even the time they spent typing was appreciated.

the last one, the rippers. i just let them in. but i assure that i won’t let them go out, alive. haha

  10. Nagashiko says:

“Thanks for sharing. Got a new Post!â€

    “Cool!â€

    —–

    Naww… Just kidding! Hehehe. Peace!

Yeah, I don’t like those kinds of visitors as well. When I make comments to other blogger’s posts, I make sure I’ve read them, coz I want my visitors to do the same.

But if I don’t want to read a post, then I won’t write comments about it, as simple as that. Since you’ve shared your view on this issue, maybe I should spread the word by blogging about it as well and encourage other bloggers to NOT spam our blogs.

    Good post btw. =)

Hey, I really enjoy your blog. I have a blog too in a totally unrelated field (Online Stock Trading) but I like to check in here on a regular basis, just to see what’s going on and it’s always interesting to say the least. It’s always entertaining what people have to say.
